A member of the communications team for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Basnere has thrown his weight behind the comment made by the Member of Parliament for Abetifi Constituency who doubles as the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon Bryan Acheampong, regarding his party not to hand over power to the opposition National Democratic Congress.

According to him, the MP’s comment exemplifies the hard work and dedication the party is putting in to reclaim power by all legal means come the December 7th general elections.
Alhaji Basnere made this known during a discussion on the “AM Ghana” show of Adoa TV this morning.

” I think the comment….. I’m even surprised people are misinterpreting what he said because he said NPP will not hand over power to NDC – I don’t see anything wrong with the statement or the comment.

We were in this country when NDC won the 2012 elections. To us, NPP, we think the election was not fair and so we took the issue to court and the court pronounced that Mahama was the legitimate president of the country; we laced our boots, went out there, campaigned, canvassed, and in 2016 Ghanaians came out overwhelmingly and endorsed Nana Addo to become the president, so since then we believe that elections are won at the polling stations”, he explained.

Meanwhile, the representative of the NDC, Mr. Philip Sambo on the show considered the comment as unfortunate and shouldn’t be tolerated.

The Hon Member made this comment over the weekend during a mini- rally in Kwahau in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
