According to an Evangelist, Patrick Tagoe, potential partners must seek knowledge and advice from mature and experienced persons, counsellors, and TV shows on marriage as well as praying, for insights and guidance.
He said, It must be noted that marriage is not necessarily about age maturity but intellectual maturity, where both couples have the experience, understanding and knowledge of what marriage entails.
The Evangelist, who is an author and a counsellor featured on the Family Life television show on AdoaTV, emphasized the importance of focusing on key issues during courtship to better understand each other before getting married. It is essential to pay attention to each other’s likes and dislikes and to work together to make corrections when necessary. A weak courtship may lead to an unhappy marriage, so it is important to take the time to truly get to know each other before tying the knot.
He suggested that the younger generation who are in the courting phase should engage in pre-marital counselling to gain knowledge and awareness about relevant information and issues that will lead them towards a successful married life. He advised them not to let emotions or feelings deceive them as discussions based on emotions and feelings may not be wise.
He believes that premarital counselling, which is being offered by many systems, can provide a guide and foundation needed for a future marriage. Doing things by oneself may cause one to omit important aspects. Therefore, premarital counselling is necessary to avoid such situations.
Marriage is an institution that requires two mature individuals (man and woman) who are well-abreast with knowledge and information about love to stay together for the rest of their lives.
