Mocking persons with disability is an offence – GSPD to Shatta Wale

By Wilhelmina Oddoye

The National President of the Ghana Society of the physically disabled (GSPD), Mathew Annor Kodom has cautioned Shatta Wale on mocking physically challenged persons.

In a press release dated April 15 2024, he stated that making fun of physically challenged persons is an offence punishable “by law concerning the Disability Act 715.”*

This statement came after a video of Shatta Wale mocking Stonebwoy’s leg was found circulating on social media.

In the said video, it is alleged that among other negative comments, Shatta Wale said Stonebwoy was a bad person and that was why God made him disabled.
The GSPD however claim that the comment meant all persons with disability are how they are because they are bad persons.

Mr. Kodom in the press statement expressed his disappointment in a high-profile person for making such a “primitive statement”.

He then asked Shatta Wale to retract his statement, remove the video from social media and apologize to all physically challenged persons as well as Ghanaians for his behaviour.
