The Ghana Union of Traders’ Associations (GUTA) has called for a swift and decisive resolution of the ongoing power outages, also known as “Dumsor,” which is negatively impacting businesses.
The power outages according the statement signed by GUTA National Communications Director, Mr. Joseph Paddy are affecting every sphere of “productivity, from agriculture to industry, and manufacturers” are finding it difficult to maintain production schedules and plan for their workers due to the inconsistency in power supply.
GUTA demands answers
In the press release cited by ADOANEWS, dated on April 25, GUTA is demanding to know the cause of the erratic power outages, what efforts are being made to fix it, and when a timetable for the “Dumsor” can be expected.


ECG’s response
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has revealed that it has dispatched over 100 notifications of power outages during the initial quarter of 2024, mostly for essential maintenance activities on the company’s transmission infrastructure.
PURC directive
The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) earlier, directed ECG to unveil a load management timetable by April 2, 2024, to provide clarity and transparency regarding the power supply challenges faced by consumers.
GMA Support
The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has also added its voice to the calls for a load-shedding timetable, citing the impact of erratic power outages on hospital administration, treatment, and operations.
