In a fervent call for accountability, Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa, has voiced his concerns over the Electoral Commission’s performance during voter registration in his constituency.
Expressing his disappointment on Twitter, Ablakwa highlighted the significant challenges encountered during the registration process at the Ayiwata Registration Centre. The absence of any registrations due to purported equipment malfunctions and connectivity issues left over a hundred potential voters without the opportunity to register.
Ablakwa, who spent the entire day at the Ayiwata village, witnessed firsthand the frustration and inconvenience faced by constituents. He emphasized the EC’s inadequate response, which failed to rectify the situation promptly, leading to a day of lost registrations.
Furthermore, the MP underscored similar problems experienced at the EC’s District Office in Bator, where registration delays persisted for nearly eight hours past the scheduled start time.
In light of these setbacks, Ablakwa issued a stern warning to the Electoral Commission, asserting that additional registration days should be provided to compensate for any lapses or shortcomings in their operations.
This call for action reflects the MP’s commitment to ensuring fair and accessible electoral processes for the residents of North Tongu. As the nation prepares for upcoming elections, Ablakwa’s demand for accountability serves as a reminder of the importance of efficient and transparent electoral administration.
