Paralympic Qualification: Golden Pedals Misses out due to financial constraints

Ghana, the Top Para-cycling nation on the UCI table couldn’t fly to Egypt over the weekend to compete for slots in the World Paralympic Games due to due lack of finance.

The Para team of the Golden Pedals have been training in Anticipation for the qualifiers only to be told they can’t honour the qualifiers due to financial constraint

The Para team of the Golden Pedals couldn’t represent the country at the ongoing Paralympic Qualification in Egypt due to insufficient funds.

The team was supposed to receive some financial Assistance from the Ghana Olympic Committee headed by Ben Nunoo Mensah to aid their travelling to depart the shores of Ghana over the weekend.

The Federation was also hoping the National Sports Authority would support them financially only to be told Bawa Majeed Deputy Director General of the Authority has travelled to Cameroon for the African Athletics Championship.

The Ghana Olympic Committee was to release some funds for them on Monday to buy Air tickets and book for Accommodation, However, the G.O.C President was not picking up his call to give clearance for the funds to be released to them.

Insufficient funds meant the Athletes were unable to compete in the last qualification event in Egypt.

Despite receiving some funds, it was not adequate to aid their Ticket and Accommodation.

Ghana’s Athletes are talented enough to qualify for the Games and a stronger push to back them financially could aid their effort to compete at the Paralympic Games.
