In a surprise turn of events, former Education Minister and Bawumia’s Running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has apologized for his recent comments on Ghana’s first president, Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah.
While speaking at a political rally on July 9, Dr. Prempeh had reportedly downplayed Nkrumah’s contributions to Ghana’s development, sparking widespread outrage and criticism from various quarters.
However, in a statement released today, Dr. Prempeh expressed regret over his words, acknowledging Nkrumah’s iconic status and significant contributions to Ghana’s history.
The apology is looking forward to be welcomed by many, including the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Foundation, CPP, which had earlier condemned Dr. Prempeh’s comments.
This development highlights the importance of thoughtful communication in public discourse, especially when discussing sensitive national issues.
Dr. Prempeh’s apology has helped to diffuse tension and promote healing, demonstrating the power of acknowledging and learning from our mistakes.
