Kejetia-Central Market traders delighted as phase-2 of redevelopment project resumes

Traders in the Ashanti region are thrilled that work on phase two of the Kejetia-Central Market redevelopment project has resumed after being stalled for over a year.

They have urged the government to expedite the project’s completion, fearing it may be used as a political tool in the upcoming general elections.

The project, which began in 2022, was halted in early 2023 due to funding shortages.

Throughout the past year, traders and local residents have repeatedly called on the government to resume work, with some even threatening to stage demonstrations to push for the release of necessary funds.

Now that construction has finally restarted, the traders are relieved but remain cautious about the timing, particularly since contractors have yet to provide a clear timeline for when the project will be finished.

They are pressing the government to ensure the work is completed quickly.
