Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen objected to the sale of the Ghana International Trade Fair Centre when the agreement was laid before him as Minister of Trade and Industry.
A leading member of the Movement for Change, Hopeson Yaovi Adorye, who made the revelation says members made several attempts of the government to sign the agreement which he refused.
Establishing the incorruptibility of the former Minister who served under both the John Agyekum Kufuor and Akufo-Addo’s administration, Hopeson Adorye indicated that a whooping US$10million bribe was offered Mr. Kyerematen to sign the agreement in the lead up to the NPP presidential primary which he objected.
Mr. Adorye established that when Alan refused after several attempts to sign the deal, it was given to another minister to sign.
“When they decided to sell the Trade Fair, Alan went through the agreement and said he won’t sign. What the NPP has done to Alan has not started today but was planned [long ago]. That is why all the agencies under his Ministry that were generating money were moved to the Office of the President. From 2017 to 2021 ask where all the money they raised is,” he revealed.
He continued that, a former Member of Parliament for Obuasi East, Edward Michael Ennin, had granted an interview and disclosed that “when Alan was about going to the [presidential] primary, someone brought US$10m for him to sign the agreement and he (Alan) asked him to take his money away. So, they moved the agreement from his ministry to another ministry and signed it.”
He added that it not true that Alan Kyerematen will bow out of the presidential race in the eleventh hour and rejoin the NPP.
“It will never happen [that Alan will rescind his decision to contest the presidency]. If he would, it would be better he returned [to the NPP]. If that’s the case, he would have come at the time they were soliciting for his return to be made running mate to the flag bearer,” he stated, adding that Alan Kyerematen will become the first independent President of the Republic just as it has happened in other jurisdictions, including neighbouring Benin.
Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen served and Trade and Industry Minister under both the Akufo-Addo and John Agyekum Kufuor administrations.
He contested the party’s flag bearer position in 2023 after failing three previous attempts.
After a super delegates’ conference to prune the 10 aspirants to five, Alan Kyerematen noted that the electoral processes were schemed against him, leading to his resignation from the party even before the main contest for the flag bearer position was done.
He formed the Movement for Change and later allied with other movements and smaller political parties to make a solid front ahead of the December 2024 elections.
