Mensah Korsah threatens to terminate contracts of non-performing contractors

The Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, has issued a stern warning to contractors failing to meet their obligations under the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme. He stated that the Ministry is prepared to terminate the contracts of those who continue to underperform, despite having received payments for essential infrastructural projects across 35 municipalities.

During a media briefing following his tour of the Western and Central Regions, the Minister expressed his frustration with contractors who exhibit a lackadaisical attitude towards their work. He noted that some contractors deliberately delay projects in an attempt to secure additional funds from the government. He emphasized that such actions would not be tolerated by the Ministry.

“Some have been good, some have not been good. Where it’s not been good, we have put in place measures to ensure that nobody frustrates the government and the people who must be enjoying these projects. We have observed that some contractors who have some agreement with the ministry to work, having been paid what they need under the agreement, have failed to deliver as required.”

“They collect the money and the work is not being done. Where you expect a higher percentage of the work to have been done, there’s nothing there. And what we have been saying is that we can no longer continue to tolerate that.”

“The ministry is building records of all those people and we intend to apply the law to make sure that they don’t even come near our procurement processes next time, let alone have any jobs with us. And again, within the same space, we’ve had the cause to terminate some arrangements because they failed to deliver.”
