Manchester City defender Joško Gvardiol has lauded West Ham forward Mohammed Kudus, identifying him as a player with the potential to become a superstar this season.
Speaking on the Man City podcast, Gvardiol shared his experiences playing against Kudus, highlighting the Ghanaian’s pace, trickery, and skill.
Gvardiol first encountered Kudus on September 16, 2023, during a Premier League clash where Kudus, despite coming on as a substitute, made an immediate impact.
“I remember the first game he was on the bench, and when he came on for the last twenty minutes, he was on my side,” Gvardiol recalled. “I realized that he was quite good. He looks sharp and was good on the ball.”
Their second meeting in the final game of the 2023/2024 season left a lasting impression on Gvardiol, particularly when Kudus scored a stunning bicycle kick.
“In the second game at the end of the season, he even scored a bicycle kick. He was the one who I struggled the most against,” Gvardiol admitted.
Gvardiol expressed his admiration for Kudus, offering words of encouragement for the upcoming season. “I think he is the one who deserves the most attention, and I believe this season he’s going to come out and show his quality,” he said, underscoring his belief that Kudus has the potential to establish himself as one of the world’s best players.
Kudus’s debut season in England was nothing short of remarkable, with the West Ham forward scoring 14 goals and providing six assists across all competitions. He is currently in the Black Stars camp preparing to face Angola tomorrow at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
