Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia recently launched GMX, a new local streaming platform aimed at promoting Ghanaian content and talent.
The platform is designed to provide users with access to a wide range of local movies, music, and other entertainment options, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the country.
The event took place at the De Icon Centre in East Legon, Accra. GMX is owned by Omni Strategies and will operate with support from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture.
The platform is set to be operational from January 2025.
During the launch event, Bawumia emphasized the importance of digital innovation and the need to support local industries in the face of global competition. He highlighted how GMX could empower Ghanaian creators and enhance the country’s digital economy.
“The Ghana Music Xperience is more than just a music streaming platform, as was just illustrated. It is much more than that; it embodies what it means to preserve our culture, support our artistes, and leverage technology to foster economic growth within the creative arts,” he stated.

“There is a myriad of music streaming platforms, however, having one that is purely dedicated to Ghanaian music and musicians is a welcome addition to our digitalization journey as a country,” he said.
The General Manager of Omni Strategies, Ato Aduenu Tandoh emphasized the need for a collaborative effort to make the App achieve its purpose.
“GMX is homegrown, reflecting our commitment to a ‘Ghana First’ agenda. It is also a call for action. We invite private entities, investors, and creative minds who share in our vision, to join us. Together we can ensure that every artiste has the tools and the opportunities t thrive,” he added.

In attendance were the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Akwasi Agyeman; the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Andrew Egyapa Mercer; the President of the Musicians Union of Ghana, Bessa Simons; the Marketing Manager of Ghana Music Xperience, Akissi Ackah, among several creative arts industry players.
