The City of Newark, The Ghana Consulate of New York, The United Ghanaian Council of New Jersey and The African Commission yesterday held the Ghana Independence Flag Raising Ceremony as we celebrated the 68th Anniversary of Ghana’s independence Flag Raising Ceremony honoring a proud legacy of freedom, unity, and strength. In attendance were Hon. and Mrs. Ras J. Baraka, Mayor of the City of Newark, Hon John Caleb Amoah Acting Consul General of New York, Hon. Legia DeFreitas, Deputy Mayor for Diaspora Affairs, C. Lawrence Crump, President of the Newark City Council & other Council Members.




The Ghanaian Churches and the entire Ghanaian community, chiefs and queens were there to grace the occasion at the Newark City Hall Rotunda, New Jersey.
Awards were given to deserving Ghanaians namely Rev. Dr. Nathan Addo-Nartey, Mr. Carlyle Fraser , Winnie Asa-Awuku, Otafregya Opoku Frimpong, Lord Ansong , David Nii Akushey Bruce-Quaye who have demonstrated support and patriotism to the Ghanaian community in New Jersey. Proclamations were also given to two of the United Ghanaian Council members namely Edward Mettle and Sarah Sarpong for their stewardship as well as a third one which was received on behalf of the people of Ghana by the Acting Consul General….




The flag raising ceremony took place outside the city hall amidst the windy cold……..
