Richard Akpokavie Esq., a leading candidate in the upcoming Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) presidential elections, has initiated a series of high-level engagements with Ghana’s top corporate sponsors and key sports stakeholders. These meetings are part of his broader vision to secure sustainable funding and strategic partnerships for the development of National Federations within Ghana’s Olympic movement.
The engagements will involve discussions with prominent corporate brands and influential organizations dedicated to advancing sports development in Ghana. Mr. Akpokavie’s goal is to create a robust sponsorship framework that will provide long-term financial stability and support for Ghanaian athletes and sports federations.
“Corporate partnerships are the backbone of a thriving sports industry. Ghanaian athletes and federations require strong corporate backing to compete and excel on the global stage. My priority is to establish sustainable sponsorship structures that will benefit the entire Olympic movement. This is something I successfully championed during my tenure as Secretary-General, particularly in helping to secure full funding for the RIO 2016 Olympic Games and advanced discussions for Cocoa4 Ghana’s 1.7m Euros per year through the support of corporate Ghana,” Mr. Akpokavie stated.
The discussions will focus on key areas, including:
• Sponsorship Investments: Securing funding for athlete development, training, and participation in international competitions.
• Athlete Development Programs: Creating initiatives to nurture young talent and provide world-class training opportunities.
• Infrastructure Support: Collaborating with governments on projects to improve sports facilities and infrastructure across the country.
• Long-Term Collaborations: Building partnerships that ensure financial stability and growth for Ghana’s sports federations.
As part of his campaign, Mr. Akpokavie has pledged to lead a transparent, athlete-centred administration that prioritizes accountability and fosters confidence among corporate partners. His vision is to maximize the potential of Ghanaian sports and elevate the country’s standing on the international stage.
“I am committed to building a GOC that is not only transparent but also focused on the needs of our athletes. By working closely with corporate Ghana and other stakeholders, we can create a sustainable ecosystem that supports the growth and success of our sports industry, I have also reiterated and shown examples in getting corporate support when I was President of Ghana Hockey to support athlete development and events” he added.
