The Anglican Diocese of Accra began its First Session of the twenty-fifth Synod with an Opening Ceremony at the St. Joseph The Worker Anglican Church – Kaneshie
During the reading of the Bishop’s Charge, the Diocesan, Rt. Rev’d Dr. Daniel S.M. Torto called the Church to be a prophetic voice on national issues particularly illegal mining, educational reforms, and environmental preservation.
“We urge the government to pass legislation that bans mining in all forest reserves and water bodies to protect the environment for future generations,” he stated.
In a strong critique of politicized education policy, the Bishop encouraged government leaders to implement outcomes of the National Education Forum with urgency and equity.
“Education must not be sacrificed on the altar of politics. It must prepare hearts, minds, and hands for the 21st century.”
He praised President John Mahama for a peaceful election victory and challenged political leaders to promote unity and transparency in governance.
