Mahama Holds Town Hall Meeting With Ghanaians in Lusaka

President John Dramani Mahama has held a town hall meeting with members of the Ghanaian community in Lusaka, Zambia, using the forum to engage Ghanaians abroad on economic opportunities, governance, and national unity.

The meeting provided an open platform for dialogue, as President Mahama addressed concerns about Ghana’s development problems and reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive growth and effective leadership.

Touching on the collapse of Ghana Airways, President Mahama attributed its failure to poor management rather than to technical or equipment-related challenges.

He emphasised that with good leadership, the airline’s difficulties could have been salvaged insisting that mismanagement ultimately led to its collapse

According to him, Ghana Airways could have succeeded like its regional counterparts, Kenya Airways and Ethiopian Airlines, if it had benefited from sound management and strategic direction.

In a related development, the Minister of Education, Honourable Haruna Iddrisu, announced that plans are underway to establish a new national airline. He revealed that about two weeks ago, President Mahama introduced the Minister of Transport to travel to Tanzania to facilitate that country’s entry into the Ghanaian aviation market.

He added that by the end of the year, “Ghana will own the sky.”

On land administration, Honourable Haruna Iddrisu disclosed that President Mahama has directed the Minister of Lands to brief him on the current state of public land administration in Ghana, to take decisive action to address challenges faced by affected citizens.

He emphasised that the President is firmly committed to preserving and protecting state lands.
He further noted that a new land application system has been developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Communications and Technology to improve transparency and efficiency in land management.

The Minister of Communications and Technology, Honourable Sam George, confirmed that land reforms are currently underway in line with the NDC manifesto, which pledged to digitalise land administration in Ghana.

According to him, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has adopted outcomes from the first Cabinet-level Artificial Intelligence (AI) retreat, which will operate under direct presidential directives.

He explained that, under President Mahama’s guidance, the Ministry of Lands has initiated a joint process with the Ministry of Communications and Technology to deploy AI solutions across the sector.

This initiative aims to regenerate the national land registry by creating a verified and immutable record of land ownership.

The new system, he said, will establish a secure and “locked” chain of title for each property, making ownership records unchangeable once verified.
He emphasised that not even the President would have the authority to change these secured land records.
