President Mahama Reaffirms Ghana as a Model of Democracy at Independence Day Celebrations

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed Ghana’s status as a model of democracy in Africa, stressing that the country will continue to demonstrate that democracy, economic reform, and African unity can thrive together.

Speaking at the Independence Day celebrations on March 6, 2026, President Mahama said Ghana would continue to lead by example while pursuing reforms that strengthen democratic governance and drive economic progress.

He emphasized that deeper continental integration, including a unified market for African goods and services and a strong platform for innovation, would be critical to boosting Africa’s economic sovereignty.

“Ghana will continue to lead by example, demonstrating that democracy, economic reform and African unity can succeed together,” the President stated.

President Mahama called on citizens to renew their commitment to the country’s national vision as Ghana prepares to mark its 70th independence anniversary next year. He outlined a future in which no child goes to bed hungry, education is accessible and empowering for all, healthcare is affordable, and infrastructure meets world-class standards.

He also highlighted the importance of a merit-based society, where opportunities are determined by ability rather than personal connections, and a digitally connected Ghana stretching from Aflao to Hamile, while preserving forests and the environment for future generations.

“A vision of a Ghana where no child will go to bed hungry. A Ghana where education is accessible and empowering. A Ghana where healthcare is affordable and accessible. A Ghana with world-class infrastructure. A Ghana that produces what it consumes. A Ghana where merit and not connections decide opportunity. A Ghana that is digitally connected from Aflao to Hamile. A Ghana that preserves its forest and environment for future generations. This vision is within reach, but it requires our collective efforts,” he said.

President Mahama emphasized that achieving these goals will require the collective commitment and effort of all Ghanaians, underscoring the shared responsibility in shaping the nation’s future.
