The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has called for the immediate refund of monies collected from Ghanaian youth under the guise of recruitment into the security services.
According to Mr. Afenyo-Markin, it is unjust for individuals to be charged money with the promise of securing employment, only for those opportunities to fail to materialize. He emphasized that any recruitment process that involves financial payments must be transparent and accountable.
He noted that many young people paid fees in anticipation of being enlisted into the Armed Forces and other security services but have yet to be admitted. In such circumstances, he argued, the funds collected should be refunded without delay.
The Minority Leader further stressed that the recruitment exercise was intended to place applicants into the security services, including the military and other forces. However, where this objective has not been achieved, fairness demands that the affected youth be reimbursed.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin reiterated his call for authorities to act swiftly to ensure that the affected individuals receive their money, describing the situation as a matter of urgency and justice for the young people of Ghana.
