Ministry of Labour, Jobs & Employment Signs MOU to Strengthen Workplace Safety Reforms in Ghana

The Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment has entered into a strategic partnership with IanMatSun Global Services through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at advancing Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) reforms across Ghana.

A central feature of the agreement is the formal institutionalisation and expansion of the HESS Awards Scheme. The initiative is designed to recognise and reward excellence in workplace health, environment, safety, and sustainability practices across various industries. By celebrating organisations and individuals that demonstrate strong commitment to safe and healthy work environments, the scheme seeks to promote compliance, innovation, and accountability.

Under the partnership, both parties will leverage the Awards as a strategic tool to drive positive behavioural change, encourage adherence to OSH standards, and highlight best practices that can be adopted nationwide. The scheme will also provide a benchmarking platform for organisations to assess their performance against both national and international safety standards.

This collaboration represents a major step in strengthening national efforts to improve workplace safety and fast-track the implementation of recommendations outlined in Ghana’s first National Occupational Safety and Health Profile, launched in October 2025.

The MOU further establishes a framework for sustained cooperation between the Ministry and IanMatSun Global Services, focusing on policy dialogue, institutional reforms, stakeholder engagement, and increased public awareness within the OSH sector.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Dr Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring safe and healthy working conditions for all.

He noted that the partnership signals a shift from assessment to action, adding that the HESS Awards will play a key role in recognising compliance and driving excellence across all sectors of the economy.
