Mahama Inspects New Cardiology Centre Project at Tamale Teaching Hospital

President John Dramani Mahama has toured ongoing construction of a cardiology centre at the Tamale Teaching Hospital as part of his Resetting Ghana Tour of the Northern Region.

The facility, being developed under the MahamaCares (Ghana Medical Trust Fund), is expected to strengthen specialised healthcare delivery, particularly in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases.

Once completed, the centre will focus on diagnosing and managing heart-related conditions, helping to close a major gap in Ghana’s healthcare system.

The project is also intended to reduce the need for patients in northern Ghana to travel long distances often to Accra or abroad for advanced cardiac care. By bringing these services closer to communities, authorities expect improved access, quicker intervention, and better health outcomes.

During the visit, President Mahama engaged with engineers and health professionals working on the project and expressed satisfaction with the pace of construction.

He stressed that expanding healthcare infrastructure remains a central priority of his administration’s development agenda, noting that access to modern, well-equipped facilities is key to improving care nationwide.

The President added that strengthening tertiary institutions like the Tamale Teaching Hospital will be critical in tackling the growing burden of non-communicable diseases, including heart conditions.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring equitable access to quality healthcare services across all regions.
