Queiroz Dismisses Style Labels, Prioritises Winning Philosophy for Black Stars

Head coach of the Ghana national team, Carlos Queiroz, has brushed aside traditional labels about playing style, insisting that his football philosophy is centred on one thing—winning.

The veteran tactician made the remarks during his official unveiling at the Alisa Hotel, as Ghana steps up preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, now just weeks away.

In a light-hearted yet pointed response to questions about his tactical identity, Queiroz joked about the intense scrutiny that comes with managing the Black Stars.

“I’ve been told there are 33 million coaches here. That makes my job easier because with so many opinions around me, it will be easy to make decisions.”

The comment highlights both the deep passion of Ghanaian fans and the high expectations surrounding the national team.

Winning over philosophy

Queiroz made it clear he does not subscribe to being labelled as either an attacking or defensive coach, arguing that modern football has evolved beyond such distinctions.

“In modern football, there is no such thing as defensive or attacking coaches. The language I know is the winning language.”

For the experienced manager, success is defined not by ideology but by execution and results on the pitch.

Built on discipline and sacrifice

While dismissing labels, Queiroz outlined the core values underpinning his approach—discipline, unity, and collective effort.

“When we don’t have the ball, we must fight together. We must sacrifice.”

His comments point to a team built on structure, resilience, and shared responsibility, particularly in high-pressure situations.

With the global tournament fast approaching, Queiroz has set the tone early: style is secondary—results are everything.

As the Black Stars gear up for their World Cup campaign, including an opening fixture against Panama in June and two scheduled friendlies, his philosophy signals a pragmatic, results-driven approach focused on effectiveness rather than flair.
