Minister Revokes Adamus Resources Mining Leases Over Illegal Mining Activities.

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, has revoked the Akango, Salman, and Nkroful mining leases previously held by Adamus Resources following allegations of illegal mining practices and regulatory violations.

The decision comes after investigations by the Minerals Commission revealed multiple breaches of the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006 (Act 703) and other relevant legal frameworks governing the sector.

According to the Commission’s findings, Adamus Resources transferred parts of its mining operations to third parties without obtaining prior approval from the sector minister. This action is said to contravene Section 14 of Act 703, which requires ministerial consent before any such transfer or assignment of mining rights.

Further investigations uncovered that the company conducted mining operations without approved operational plans and failed to secure the necessary authorization from the Chief Inspector of Mines. These actions violate Regulation 8(1) of the Minerals and Mining (Health, Safety and Technical) Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2182), which mandates strict compliance with safety and operational standards.

The revocation of the leases is part of broader government efforts to tighten oversight within Ghana’s mining industry and address the persistent challenge of illegal mining. Authorities say the move underscores a renewed commitment to enforcing compliance and safeguarding the country’s natural resources.
