The Ministry of Health Ghana says it has paid two months of salary arrears to newly recruited nurses and outlined plans to recruit 16,000 health workers this year, with half already granted financial clearance.

In a press release dated April 28, 2026, the Ministry’s spokesperson, Tony Goodman, stated that the next round of payments will cover three months from May to July 2026 as previously announced.

According to the statement, financial clearance has so far been secured for about 8,000 of the intended recruits, while efforts are ongoing to obtain approval for the remaining 8,000. “No health worker will be engaged without financial provision,” the Ministry emphasised.

The Ministry also reiterated that its recruitment portal remains the sole official channel for all applications, a measure aimed at ensuring transparency, fairness and accountability.

It acknowledged the “understandable anxiety” among applicants due to the high number of submissions, noting that while some have been successful, others are still awaiting consideration. The Ministry added that it is working to secure additional clearances to accommodate more qualified candidates.

The statement was signed by Tony Goodman, spokesperson for the Ministry.
