President John Dramani Mahama has visited Fuveme in the Volta Region to assess the impact of recent tidal waves and engage residents on both immediate relief efforts and long-term coastal protection plans.
During the visit, he noted that the area is part of the West Africa Coastal Areas Management Program (WACA), a $150 million project backed by the World Bank to address coastal erosion and tidal wave threats in vulnerable communities.

The President assured residents that although the project is currently at the design stage, it will soon move into implementation. Planned interventions include the construction of sea defence systems and groynes, as well as ecosystem restoration efforts such as the planting of coconut trees and mangroves.
In the meantime, government is considering short-term measures, including dredging the estuary to ease pressure on the coastline and reduce further damage.
