Prolonged malfunction of traffic lights in parts of central Accra is heightening safety concerns for both motorists and pedestrians, particularly around key national institutions.
The affected stretch includes areas near the Supreme Court of Ghana, the Bank of Ghana, and the Ghana Commercial Bank enclave close to the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum—a high-security zone frequently used by government officials and Members of Parliament.
With traffic signals out of service, confusion at major intersections has intensified, forcing pedestrians to depend on personnel from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly to safely cross busy roads. The situation worsens during morning rush hours, as vehicles inch through congested junctions, leading to significant delays.
The safety risk is further amplified by the presence of nearby schools, including Bishop Girls School and Holy Trinity Cathedral Secondary School, where students are exposed to hazardous road conditions on a daily basis.
Commuters and residents have expressed frustration over the prolonged outage, questioning why such a critical fault remains unresolved in the administrative heart of the capital.
