NPP Condemns Kevin Taylor’s Remarks Against Former President Kufuor

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has condemned comments made by social commentator Kevin Ekow Taylor against former President John Agyekum Kufuor, calling on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and President John Dramani Mahama to publicly distance themselves from the remarks.

During one of his political talk shows, Kevin Taylor reportedly described the former President as “lazy” and suggested that he should “stand up and walk.”

In a statement issued on Thursday, May 8, and signed by the NPP’s Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, the party described the comments as unacceptable, disrespectful, and beneath the standards of political discourse.

The NPP stated that former President Kufuor played a vital role in stabilising Ghana’s economy, strengthening democratic governance, and earning international recognition during his administration.

“This is not politics. This is desecration,” the statement said, insisting that former President Kufuor should be treated as a national statesman rather than a partisan target.

According to the party, the silence of the NDC regarding the comments amounts to complicity due to what it described as Kevin Taylor’s “well-documented ties” to the opposition party.

The NPP further called on President Mahama and the NDC leadership to immediately dissociate themselves from the remarks and urged Kevin Taylor to issue an “unqualified and public apology” to the former President.

The statement also stressed the importance of maintaining Ghanaian cultural values and decency in political discourse, warning against attacks on respected national figures.

The party added that Ghanaians are closely observing how the NDC and the Mahama administration respond to the controversy.
