NIA Workers To Commence Indefinite Strike Today Over Conditions Of Service

Workers of the National Identification Authority under the Public Services Workers’ Union of the Trades Union Congress Ghana have announced plans to embark on an indefinite strike effective Wednesday, May 13, 2026.

The industrial action follows demands for the immediate approval and implementation of migration reports relating to their conditions of service.

In a joint statement signed by Assistant Divisional Secretary Godsway Ayivor and Divisional Chairman Bismark Francis Bangfudem Nyuzaghl, members nationwide were directed to stay away from work beginning midnight on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, until further notice.

“Effective 12:00 midnight, the indefinite strike is fully activated. Accordingly, no member of the NIA Division is expected to show up for work until further notice,” portions of the statement read.

The union further instructed regional executives to establish monitoring teams to ensure strict compliance with the strike action across all NIA offices nationwide.

According to the statement, regional executives and members are expected to monitor various offices to ensure no worker defies the directive.

The union also urged members encountering challenges during the strike period to contact divisional executives for assistance.

“In solidarity, we stand. No retreat, no surrender until victory,” the statement added.

The strike is likely to disrupt services at NIA offices across the country, including Ghana Card registration, issuance, and other identification-related operations.

Meanwhile, management of the National Identification Authority has appealed to staff to grant government an additional two weeks to finalize processes concerning the approval and implementation of the migration reports tied to workers’ conditions of service.
