EC Deputy Chairperson Dr. Bossman Asare Resigns; Samuel Tettey Retires

Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) in charge of Corporate Affairs, Dr. Bossman Asare, has resigned from his position, effective July 31, 2026.

The announcement was made by the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, during the Government Accountability Series on Monday, June 15, 2026.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu also disclosed that the EC’s Deputy Chairperson responsible for Operations, Samuel Tettey, has officially retired from office.

According to the Government Spokesperson, Dr. Asare indicated in his resignation letter that he intends to return to academia and continue his professional work at the University of Ghana.

He added that the outgoing Deputy EC Chairperson expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama and the people of Ghana for the opportunity to serve the nation through the Electoral Commission.

“Dr. Bossman Asare conveyed his appreciation to the President and the people of Ghana for the privilege of serving at the Electoral Commission,” Mr. Kwakye Ofosu stated.

The government has already initiated processes to fill the vacancies created by the resignation and retirement.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu revealed that a nominee has been submitted to the Council of State for consideration as part of the constitutional process required for the appointment of new Electoral Commission officials.

He explained that once the Council of State concludes its review, an official announcement will be made regarding the replacement for Samuel Tettey. A separate process will subsequently be undertaken to appoint a successor to Dr. Bossman Asare.

The Electoral Commission is expected to provide further information on the transition and succession arrangements in the coming weeks.

Dr. Asare has served as Deputy Chairperson in charge of Corporate Affairs, while Mr. Tettey has overseen the Commission’s operational activities, playing key roles in the management of Ghana’s electoral processes.
