Police Warn WASSCE Candidates Against Post-Examination Violence

The Ghana Police Service has cautioned final-year students writing the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) against engaging in violence, vandalism, or any unlawful acts after completing their final paper on Friday, June 19, 2026.

In a statement issued on Thursday, June 18, 2026, the Police warned that students who participate in violence, arson, assault, vandalism, or any other criminal activity would be arrested and prosecuted, stressing that such offences could have long-term consequences for their future.

The caution follows recent incidents in the Upper East Region, where six students have been arrested in connection with separate acts of violence.

According to the Police, two students of Zebilla Senior High Technical School were arrested over their alleged involvement in an arson attack on a teacher’s apartment.

In a separate incident, four students of Bawku Senior High School were arrested in connection with rioting, assaulting members of staff, and destroying both school and private property.

The Police urged students to celebrate the completion of their examinations responsibly and to conduct themselves within the confines of the law.

The Service also appealed to parents, guardians, and school authorities to collaborate in promoting discipline, respect for the law, and peaceful behaviour among students during and after the examination period.
