Ya-Na Abukari II, Dagbon Overlord Passes Away

The Overlord of the Dagbon Kingdom, Ya-Na Abukari II, has passed away, throwing the kingdom into a period of mourning.

His death was officially announced on Monday, July 13, by the Head of the Dagbon Kingmakers, Kuga Naa Adam Abdulai II, after the completion of customary rites at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi.

In keeping with Dagbon tradition, the announcement followed the sounding of the traditional talking drum and the observance of sacred customary rituals, which formally signify the passing of a Ya-Na.

The late overlord has since been laid to rest in accordance with Dagbon customs.

The passing of Ya-Na Abukari II marks a significant chapter in the history of the Dagbon Kingdom. Following the completion of the funeral rites, traditional authorities are expected to commence the customary processes leading to the selection and enskinment of a successor.
