The Ghana Police Service has intercepted 1,054 vehicles in the Greater Accra Region as part of an ongoing nationwide operation targeting the unauthorised use of sirens, strobe lights, beacon lights and illegal vehicle modifications.
According to the Police, the enforcement exercise is aimed at improving compliance with road traffic regulations and curbing practices that undermine road safety and discipline among motorists.
In a statement posted on its official Facebook page on Tuesday, July 21, the Service said the operation focuses on vehicles fitted with unauthorised devices, including improvised modifications, illegal horns, sirens, strobe lights and beacon lights.
The Police said motorists found in violation of the regulations were educated on the relevant provisions of the Road Traffic Regulations, while the unauthorised devices and modifications were removed and confiscated for further action.
The Service disclosed that 4,627 vehicles have been intercepted nationwide since the exercise began on June 15, 2026.
According to the Police, the nationwide operation forms part of broader efforts to strengthen road safety enforcement, encourage responsible driving and ensure motorists comply with existing traffic laws.
The Ghana Police Service assured the public that the exercise will continue across the country and warned that further enforcement action would be taken against individuals who fail to comply with the regulations.
