Former Minister of Health, Dr Bernard Okoe-Boye, has been elected the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Greater Accra Regional Chairman after securing a decisive victory in the party’s regional executive elections held on Saturday, August 15.
Dr Okoe-Boye polled 490 votes to defeat Alfred Boye, who secured 172 votes, giving him a winning margin of 318 votes.
His election comes at a critical time for the NPP in the Greater Accra Region, where the party is seeking to rebuild its political fortunes following a significant setback in the 2024 general elections.
The NPP previously held 14 of the region’s 34 parliamentary seats, but its number fell to five after the 2024 elections, resulting in the loss of nine seats.
The party’s performance in the region has heightened calls for stronger organisation, improved grassroots mobilisation and a renewed strategy to reclaim lost constituencies ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Dr Okoe-Boye will therefore be tasked with leading the regional party structure through the rebuilding process and working with constituency executives to strengthen the NPP’s presence across Greater Accra.
The Greater Accra Regional Chairman is responsible for coordinating the party’s constituency structures, mobilising supporters and overseeing the implementation of decisions taken by the party’s leadership.
Dr Okoe-Boye’s victory gives him a clear mandate to lead the NPP in the region as the party seeks to regain lost parliamentary seats and expand its support base ahead of the 2028 elections.
