The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) has described the death of the Executive Secretary of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG), Dr Isaac Bampoe Addo, as a significant loss to Organised Labour and Ghana’s public service.
Dr Bampoe Addo died on Friday, August 21, 2026, after a brief illness.
In a tribute issued on Sunday, August 23, Chief Executive of the FWSC, Dr George Smith-Graham, described the late CLOGSAG Executive Secretary as a prominent voice in Ghana’s labour relations and a strong advocate for workers’ welfare.
He said Dr Bampoe Addo played a key role in engagements between organised labour and government, particularly on issues concerning fairness, workers’ welfare and public-sector employment.
“His passing, therefore, represents a significant loss not only to CLOGSAG but also to Organised Labour, the public service, the social partnership community, and Ghana as a whole,” Dr Smith-Graham said.
He acknowledged that the mandates of the FWSC and CLOGSAG sometimes placed the two institutions on opposing sides of negotiations but noted that Dr Bampoe Addo consistently maintained mutual respect and recognised the importance of dialogue in resolving labour-related issues.
Dr Smith-Graham also recalled the late CLOGSAG executive’s participation in a stakeholder engagement organised by the FWSC on the proposed establishment of the Independent Public Emoluments Commission (IPEC).
The engagement, held at the Lancaster Hotel shortly before Dr Bampoe Addo’s death, provided an opportunity for stakeholders to discuss the proposed framework for IPEC.
According to Dr Smith-Graham, Dr Bampoe Addo was active and engaging throughout the discussions, offering what he described as valuable contributions to the development of the emerging IPEC framework.
The FWSC said his contributions to discussions on public-sector compensation and the proposed establishment of IPEC would remain an important part of the ongoing national conversation.
Dr Smith-Graham extended his condolences to the family of Dr Bampoe Addo, as well as the leadership and members of CLOGSAG, Organised Labour, his colleagues and friends.
