Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak has disclosed that 26 suspects have so far been put before the courts over election-related violence recorded during Ghana’s 2020 and 2024 general elections.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series, Mr Muntaka said one of the 26 suspects had been discharged, while the remaining 25 are currently facing trial.
He added that the police are pursuing 13 other suspects who have been identified as allegedly connected to various incidents but remain at large.
According to the Minister, efforts are ongoing to apprehend the outstanding suspects and support the prosecution of those already before the courts.
He appealed to members of the public with information on the whereabouts of the 13 wanted suspects to assist the police.
“The public will be duly informed of further developments as investigations and prosecution progress, and the police are also hoping that members of the public who have information on all these other 13 persons being pursued will be most welcome to provide that additional information,” he said.
The Minister explained that the latest update forms part of investigations into election-related violence following President John Mahama’s directive for a comprehensive probe into incidents recorded during the 2020 and 2024 elections.
Mr Muntaka reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that individuals found culpable are held accountable in accordance with the law.
He said the government would continue to support efforts by the security agencies to bring all outstanding suspects before the courts as investigations and prosecutions progress.
