The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has rejected claims that it owes the Bank of Ghana (BoG) GH¢1 billion in an unpaid overdraft, describing the allegation as false and malicious.
The denial follows a claim attributed to Tano North Member of Parliament, Dr Gideon Boako, that GoldBod had an outstanding GH¢1 billion overdraft with the Central Bank.
In a statement issued on Monday, August 24, 2026, GoldBod insisted that it had never obtained a loan, overdraft or any other debt facility from the Bank of Ghana or any financial institution since its establishment.
“For the records, the GoldBod has never at any time since its establishment taken a loan, overdraft or any debt instrument from the Bank of Ghana or any financial institution whatsoever,” the statement said.
The institution described the allegation as part of what it characterised as a “deliberate and malicious smear campaign” aimed at damaging its reputation.
GoldBod further dismissed the claim attributed to Dr Boako as fabricated and urged the public to disregard it.
“The claim attributed to Dr. Gideon Boako is contrived and should be treated with utmost contempt,” the statement said.
The GoldBod has consequently called on the Tano North MP to withdraw the allegation and issue an apology for what it described as the dissemination of false information.
“We entreat the MP to unequivocally retract and apologise for putting out this falsehood,” the statement added.
