Zanetor to Step Down from Pan-African Parliament if Approved as Minister

Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings has indicated that she will relinquish her position at the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) if Parliament approves her nomination to serve as Ghana’s Minister for Environment, Science and Technology.

Dr Agyeman-Rawlings, the Member of Parliament for Klottey-Korle, currently serves as the Second Vice-President of the Pan-African Parliament, having been elected to the position in April 2026.

She made the disclosure during her appearance before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Thursday, August 27, where she was being vetted for the Environment, Science and Technology portfolio.

Her ministerial nomination was submitted by President John Dramani Mahama as part of his recent changes to the government. The nomination follows the vacancy in the ministry after the death of the former substantive minister, Murtala Mohammed.

Dr Agyeman-Rawlings explained that should she receive parliamentary approval and subsequently be appointed by the President, she would give up her continental parliamentary role to take up the ministerial responsibility.

Her decision would bring an end to her current role within the leadership of the Pan-African Parliament, where she represents the West African region as Second Vice-President.

The development comes at a significant point in her political career, having served as the Klottey-Korle MP since 2017 and recently assumed a senior leadership position within the continental parliamentary body.

If approved, Dr Agyeman-Rawlings will take charge of the Environment, Science and Technology Ministry, where she is expected to contribute to government policy on environmental protection, scientific development, technology and related national priorities.
