Former Ghanaian boxer Michael Ayitey Okai, popularly known as Ayitey Powers, has been freed after the Dansoman Circuit Court discontinued the case against him over an alleged death threat against National Sports Authority Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah.
Ayitey Powers appeared before the court on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, after spending a week in custody in connection with the case.
The former boxer was arrested by the Accra Regional Police Command on Monday, August 24, following the circulation of a video on social media in which he was alleged to have threatened the life of the NSA Director-General.
His arrest came after the Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee (GBIMC) called for his arrest and prosecution over the alleged remarks.
With the case now discontinued by the Dansoman Circuit Court, Ayitey Powers has been released from custody.
