Supreme Court Denies Oppong Nkrumah’s Adjournment Request, Throws Out Legal Vacation Challenge

The Supreme Court has unanimously dismissed a review application filed by Ofoase-Ayirebi Member of Parliament, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, seeking to overturn a previous ruling that rejected his bid to stop court hearings during the annual legal vacation.

A three-member panel of the apex court delivered the verdict on Wednesday, effectively ending the lawmaker’s legal challenge against the court system’s vacation trial schedule.

Prior to the ruling, counsel for the MP, Frank Davies, requested an adjournment, arguing that the Attorney-General’s Department served key documents late, leaving the defense insufficient time to prepare a formal response. The Supreme Court declined the request to postpone proceedings and moved straight to hear the substantive application.

Mr. Oppong Nkrumah initiated the legal action to challenge what he characterized as the selective hearing of specific cases while the judicial system is officially on recess.

After his initial application for an injunction was thrown out, the MP sought a review from the panel to reverse the decision. Wednesday’s unanimous dismissal marks a final setback for his challenge regarding the conduct of trials during the legal vacation.
