The Ghana Education Service (GES) has released a harmonised prospectus detailing the items students are expected to have as they prepare to enter senior high school (SHS) for the 2026/27 academic year.
The standardised list is intended to help parents, guardians and students prepare adequately for the new academic year, particularly those entering boarding school.
Items for Boarding Students
Students entering boarding school are expected to have the following:
- Hard-body suitcase or trunk
- Chop box (wooden or plastic)
- One drinking cup (plastic or stainless steel)
- Plate and a set of cutlery
- Toiletries, including:
- One deodorant
- One pack of toilet rolls
- Toothpaste
- Toothbrush
- Soap
- Pomade
- Two packs of sanitary pads for girls
- Decent sandals (school-specific, with no embellishments)
- One pair of leather slippers (school-specific)
- Decent sneakers (black or white)
- Two pairs of socks (school-specific)
- Pyjamas/sleepwear
- Underwear:
- Girls: five pants and three vests
- Boys: three boxer shorts or pants and three singlets
- One plastic bucket with cover and pail
- RSV/NIV Bible or Quran
- Hymn book for Christian students, where required by the school
- Pillow
- Two student bedsheets
- Mosquito net
- School bag
- Mathematical set
- Two plain-white pillowcases
- Scientific calculator
- One blanket and sleeping cloth
- One pair of khaki trousers
- One pair of white trousers or school-specific trousers
- White dress for female students
- Two white shirts — one short-sleeved and one long-sleeved
- One additional/student-size mosquito net
- Two checked dresses, where applicable
- Student mattress
- School-specific shoes
- School-specific belt
- One hoe/cutlass
- Shea-organic mosquito repellent


School Items: Choose One Group
The prospectus also divides certain school-use items into three groups. Students are required to purchase items from one of the three groups.
Group 1
- One pair of hard hand gloves
- Five litres of liquid soap
- One kilogram of washing powder
Group 2
- Small-size bleach
- Dustpan
- One long-handled broom
- One scrubbing brush
Group 3
- One standing mop and mop bucket
- One duster
- One short local broom
Important: All personal belongings should be embossed or embroidered with the student’s name.
Items for Day Students
Day students are required to provide the following:
- One mathematical set and scientific calculator
- Decent sandals (school-specific, with no embellishments)
- Decent sneakers (black or white)
- One school bag
Day students are also expected to select one of the three groups of school-use items listed below.
Group 1
- One pair of hard hand gloves
- Five litres of liquid soap
- One kilogram of washing powder
Group 2
- Small-size bleach
- Dustpan
- One long-handled broom
- One scrubbing brush
Group 3
- One standing mop and mop bucket
- One duster
- One short local broom
