GoldBod Proposes Barter Deal to Acquire Cantonments Prime Land for New Headquarters

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has submitted a formal proposal to acquire roughly three acres of land in Cantonments, Accra, from the Department of Parks and Gardens to build its permanent operational headquarters.

Under a land-swap arrangement detailed in an August 20 letter, GoldBod plans to construct a state-of-the-art administrative facility for Parks and Gardens, alongside agreed-upon logistical support, in exchange for the prime real estate.

GoldBod Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi stated that the strategic move would deliver modern infrastructure to both state entities while putting the prime land to optimized institutional use.

“We will also be grateful if the Department can seek all necessary approvals, if so minded, for this barter arrangement,” Gyamfi wrote in the proposal. “We look forward to your favorable consideration and to engaging the Department on the modalities for taking this proposal forward.”

Established under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140), GoldBod regulates the national precious minerals sector, handling purchasing, assaying, refining, and exports to boost foreign exchange reserves. Leadership noted that a dedicated, purpose-built facility is urgently needed to centralize its administrative, technical, and regulatory operations.
