The National Premix Fuel Secretariat has announced a temporary disruption in the supply of premix fuel following an ongoing sit-down strike by members of the Ghana National Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union.
The tanker drivers commenced the strike on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, in protest against the deteriorating condition of the 7.2-kilometre Valco Roundabout–Kpone Junction road in Tema.
According to the drivers, the poor state of the road presents significant safety risks, particularly because they use the route to transport highly inflammable petroleum products.
In a notice to stakeholders dated Thursday, September 3, the National Premix Fuel Secretariat said the industrial action had affected the distribution of premix fuel, potentially disrupting supplies to individuals and communities that rely on the product.
“The ongoing strike by the Ghana National Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union has temporarily affected the supply of premix fuel,” the Secretariat stated.
The Secretariat said efforts were ongoing to resolve the issues that led to the strike and expressed hope that the drivers would soon return to work.
It apologised to stakeholders for the inconvenience caused by the disruption and assured the public of its commitment to ensuring an adequate and reliable supply of premix fuel.
The disruption could affect fishing communities and other users who depend on premix fuel for their operations. However, the Secretariat did not specify the extent of the impact or how long the supply challenges were expected to last.
The National Premix Fuel Secretariat has therefore urged stakeholders to remain patient as efforts continue to address the concerns raised by the tanker drivers and restore normal supply.
