Ghana Repatriates Body of 37-Year-Old Killed in South Africa Mob Attack

The Government of Ghana has successfully repatriated the remains of Nash Amoonu Jailor, a 37-year-old Ghanaian national who died following an alleged mob attack in East London, South Africa, in March 2026.

The body arrived at the Kotoka International Airport on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. and was formally handed over to his grieving family. All expenses linked to the transfer of the remains from South Africa to Ghana were fully covered by the state.

Extending condolences to the bereaved family, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, offered the government’s support and urged the relatives to remain resilient during this difficult period.

Meanwhile, the government, operating through the Ghanaian High Commission in Pretoria, is demanding a thorough and swift investigation by South African authorities into the fatal incident. Officials are pushing for full justice to be served as law enforcement works to uncover the exact circumstances surrounding the alleged mob attack.

The swift intervention underscores the government’s stance on safeguarding citizens abroad. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ghana’s diplomatic missions have assured that they will continue to track the case closely, maintain pressure on South African law enforcement, and uphold their mandate to protect the safety and well-being of Ghanaians living or traveling overseas.
