WAEC Releases 2026 WASSCE Results as Social Studies Records Strongest Performance

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates.

A total of 512,862 candidates from 1,022 schools were registered for the examination. The candidates comprised 225,270 males and 287,592 females.

The number of candidates represents an 11.07 per cent increase compared with the 461,736 candidates who registered for the 2025 examination.

WAEC said 5,049 candidates, representing 0.98 per cent of the total number registered, were absent from the examination.

In a statement issued on September 4, the Council announced that the results had been uploaded online. It said heads of schools would receive login details to enable them to access the results of their candidates.

Candidates can also check their individual results through the WAEC Ghana website.

Performance in Core Subjects

Among the four core subjects, Social Studies recorded the strongest performance, with 393,918 candidates, representing 78.04 per cent, obtaining grades between A1 and C6.

In English Language, 315,094 candidates, or 62.40 per cent, achieved grades from A1 to C6.

For Core Mathematics, 306,234 candidates, representing 60.75 per cent, obtained grades between A1 and C6.

Meanwhile, 309,605 candidates, equivalent to 62.08 per cent, attained grades A1 to C6 in Integrated Science.

The results also showed that 55,940 candidates (11.08 per cent) received an F9 in English Language.

Core Mathematics recorded 74,692 F9 grades, representing 14.82 per cent, while 76,136 candidates (15.27 per cent)obtained F9 in Integrated Science.

In Social Studies, 39,416 candidates, representing 7.81 per cent, received an F9.

WAEC Warns Against Results Fraud

WAEC has meanwhile cautioned candidates and the general public to be wary of fraudsters who claim they can upgrade examination results in exchange for money.

The Council stressed that its examination results are securely protected and can be authenticated through its results verification system.

It further noted that candidates and other users can download and use the WAEC QR code to verify the authenticity of results.
