The Ghana Police Service has launched extensive nationwide intelligence operations. These operations resulted in several arrests and weapon recoveries. Officers successfully disrupted multiple planned violent armed robberies. IGP Christian Tetteh Yohunu detailed the achievements during Monday’s briefing. Special intelligence teams collaborated directly with regional police commanders.
Cold Case Murder Resolution
Police arrested thirty-two-year-old Abraham Awendok for double murder. He is linked to Dr. Jesse Amoah and Elizabeth Esi’s missing case. The couple mysteriously disappeared back in April 2016. Investigators recovered their human remains for official autopsy procedures. Awendok allegedly stole their money, phones, and vehicle before fleeing. He escaped to the UAE, triggering an Interpol Red Notice. Authorities deported him back to Ghana on August 30. During interrogation, the suspect fully admitted to committing the murders. Police also managed to recover the victims’ stolen vehicle.
Capital Bank Robberies Foiled
Officers successfully foiled bank customer robberies in Greater Accra. The criminal syndicate tracked customers withdrawing large cash amounts. They unlocked vehicles using specialized master key tools. The group previously stole fifty thousand cedis in Tema Community Two. A tactical operation in Labone disrupted another planned robbery attempt. Police shot two suspects, arrested one, while another escaped. A searched vehicle yielded one pistol and thirteen license plates. Suspect Augustine Okechukwu Mazi remains remanded in custody.
Regional Gang Disruption
Western Region officers arrested five illegal mining site robbers. One suspect died during the intense tactical police engagement. Seized items include three AK-forty-sevens, ammunition, and two vehicles. Northern Region police arrested three suspects for regional robberies. They are connected to a mobile money vendor’s murder. Alleged syndicate mastermind Alaji Moro Beliko was killed. He masterminded a one-hundred-and-thirty-thousand-cedi robbery in Bupe.
Arsenal Seizure and Acknowledgment
Separate mid-year operations yielded eight additional AK-forty-sevens, an SMG, and pistols. Five remanded suspects face court on Tuesday, September eighth. The IGP commended the officers and praised public intelligence assistance. He noted government-provided armoured pickups significantly boosted combat capabilities.
