Major Traffic Disruptions Expected: GARID Urges Motorists to Avoid Kaneshie Following Pamprom Junction Closure

Motorists traveling through Accra are being advised to avoid the Kaneshie corridor following the closure of the westbound carriageway of the Dr Busia Highway at Pamprom Junction, which took effect on Monday, September 7, 2026.

The temporary closure, executed under the Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) Project, is necessary to facilitate critical flood resilience and drainage infrastructure upgrades. However, project officials warn that the intervention will severely compound existing traffic bottlenecks in the area.

GARID Project Coordinator, Dr. Ohene Sarfo, advised drivers without immediate business in Kaneshie to steer clear of the zone entirely to prevent severe gridlock. He noted that if commuters avoid treating Kaneshie as a transit route, it will significantly ease the pressure on the construction zone.

To bypass the Pamprom Junction hotspot, motorists traveling toward the N1 Highway can divert via Kwame Nkrumah Avenue through Abossey Okai or Kaneshie North. Alternatively, drivers heading further west can take the Atta Mills Highway through Korle Bu and Dansoman, exiting near Sakaman or Mallam.

Dr. Sarfo appealed for patience from commuters who must travel through the area, urging them to cooperate with traffic management measures to help workers complete the project as quickly as possible. Motorists traveling through the corridor should plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and use alternative routes where feasible.
