The Ministry of Finance says all 6,300 Ghana Education Service (GES) employees recruited in 2024 without financial clearance have now received their salaries, ending concerns over unpaid arrears.
The Ministry explained that the affected staff were inherited by the current government in 2025 after their recruitment was undertaken without the required financial clearance.
It said steps were subsequently taken to regularise their employment and facilitate payment.
“In 2025, the Government inherited 6,300 GES staff who had been recruited in 2024 without financial clearance,” the Ministry stated in a release issued on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
According to the Ministry, Cabinet approval was obtained and financial clearance subsequently granted to enable the payment of the affected workers in four tranches.
“The Ministry of Finance can confirm that all 6,300 staff covered by this arrangement have been paid,” it said.
The Ministry further denied claims that there are outstanding requests from the GES for financial clearance awaiting action.
“The Ministry further clarifies that there are no outstanding requests for financial clearance from the GES awaiting action by the Ministry of Finance,” the statement added.
The clarification comes after the Coalition of Unpaid Newly Posted Staff of the GES raised concerns over alleged unpaid salaries and arrears.
The Finance Ministry has, however, directed workers who continue to face salary-related challenges to seek assistance from the GES.
It said staff with unresolved salary or arrears issues should contact the Service with the relevant payroll or administrative details for resolution.
