Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has cautioned young people against using digital platforms to spread prejudice, misinformation and content capable of deepening divisions within society.
She said the rapid growth of technology presents both opportunities and risks, stressing that while digital platforms can fuel social tensions, they can equally be used to expand knowledge, create opportunities and promote peaceful communities.
Speaking at the 2026 West Africa Youth Days in Accra, Professor Opoku-Agyemang urged the youth to use digital tools and emerging technologies responsibly and in ways that contribute to national and social development.
The event was organised by the Regional Episcopal Conference of West Africa and hosted by the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference in Accra.
The Vice President also called for sustained investment in education and the expansion of opportunities for young people to enable them to contribute meaningfully to society.
Meanwhile, President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, Reverend Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, urged young people across the sub-region to remain courageous and hopeful despite the difficulties confronting them.
He identified economic hardship, youth unemployment and violent extremism among the major challenges facing young people and encouraged them not to succumb to fear or despair.
