Education Ministry Agrees to CSSPS Review Following Catholic Bishops’ Appeal

The Ministry of Education has accepted calls from the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference to review the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS), announcing plans to establish a technical committee to assess the process once the current placement cycle concludes.

In a statement released September 15 by Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, the Ministry welcomed proposals to strengthen transparency and accountability, affirming that the upcoming review aims to enhance the system’s overall efficiency, fairness, and public credibility.

Addressing public concerns over fairness, the Ministry maintained that the CSSPS operates primarily as a merit-based platform where academic performance takes clear priority over protocol allocations. Officials emphasized that established guidelines are designed to ensure every qualified student receives equitable treatment.

The Ministry also issued a firm reminder that school placements remain entirely free of charge, cautioning parents and guardians against paying third parties or officials for school selection or transfer requests. The public was urged to report any demands for payment to law enforcement, with the Ministry assuring full confidentiality for whistleblowers to safeguard the system’s integrity.
