The Minister of Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has given Top International Construction until Friday, September 18, to appear before the Ministry with its full Board of Directors or face termination of its contract for the 71.25-kilometre Enchi–Elubo Road in the Western North Region.
The directive follows concerns over the contractor’s failure to make significant progress on the project despite being on site for more than a decade and receiving several warnings and invitations to meet with the Ministry.
Mr. Agbodza issued the ultimatum during an inspection of the road, where he expressed disappointment with the slow pace of work and questioned the contractor’s commitment to completing the project.
According to the Minister, the Ministry has given the contractor several opportunities to improve its performance, but those efforts have not yielded the expected results.
He said the September 18 meeting would be the final opportunity for the company to explain its position and demonstrate its readiness to resume and complete the project.
“The owner of the company himself never turned up. He is always in Nigeria. He probably has better things to do than to come and do this work. He has taken our 82 million,” Mr. Agbodza said.
He further accused the contractor of failing to take the Ministry’s directives seriously, adding that the government could no longer allow the project to remain stalled.
“I am very disappointed in Top International Company. They did not take our instructions to come to the site and work seriously the way we thought they should,” he said.
Mr. Agbodza warned that the contract would be terminated if the company’s leadership failed to appear before the Ministry.
“Wherever the owner of the company and the directors are, Friday at 7 o’clock, or we terminate the job without any further discussion,” he stated.
The Enchi–Elubo Road is an important transport link connecting communities in the Western North Region to Elubo and Ghana’s western corridor.
