The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has directed members with parliamentary ambitions to immediately stop activities that could be interpreted as campaigning ahead of the party’s official opening of nominations.
The directive was issued by the party’s Functional Executive Committee (FEC) following concerns over meetings, tours, donations, public appearances and other engagements being undertaken by prospective parliamentary aspirants in various constituencies.
In a statement issued by the National Secretariat on September 14, the party cautioned members against organising or participating in activities intended, or reasonably perceived, to promote or advance their parliamentary candidacy before nominations officially open.
The NDC said such activities could disrupt its internal processes, unity and cohesion, and therefore directed members involved to discontinue them.
It warned that anyone who fails to comply could face disciplinary action and sanctions under the party’s Constitution, rules and regulations. Regional, Constituency, Branch and other party officers have also been tasked with monitoring compliance and reporting breaches to the appropriate authorities.
The party said it remains committed to a transparent and orderly process for selecting its parliamentary candidates and will announce the opening of nominations and the applicable guidelines at the appropriate time.
The directive comes as the NDC proceeds with its 2026 internal reorganisation. The party opened nominations for its Constituency Executive Elections on September 15, while parliamentary aspirants were expressly excluded from the current campaign window.
The NDC has urged all members to respect its established processes and maintain discipline throughout the internal electoral process.
